When are Provence lavender fields in bloom? It’s one of the most asked questions we get at Mas des Sens — and for good reason, when you visit Provence, Luberon. The sight of endless purple rows swaying under the Provençal sun is something out of a dream. Whether you're planning your first visit or returning to savour the scents and sights again, this guide will help you time it just right.
A Provence June Morning
The first time I saw the lavender fields in bloom was a quiet morning in late June. I stepped out of the villa, coffee and a croissant in my hands, and the scent hit me before I even saw the color. The light was golden, soft, and in the distance — a sea of violet.
There’s something truly magical about watching the sunrise over the lavender. The bees are already at work, and the hum of life carries over the fields like a gentle song.

So, Provence lavender fields - when and where to go?
We’re lucky to be located within easy reach of the most iconic lavender spots in Provence. First here in the Luberon valley at the door step of Mas des Sens the bloom starts end of June with its peak in mid July and the harvest late July to beginning of August. Don’t miss the Abbaye de Sénanque in Gordes: A 12th-century abbey framed by lavender fields. Serene and spiritual a cultural and natural highlight. And the Luberon is only one piece of the fragrant puzzle.
Let’s zoom out and wander across the rest of the Provence map of lavender — because each region has its own rhythm, shaped by altitude, sun, and soil.
First, there’s the Valensole Plateau, perhaps the most iconic of them all. Vast, open, and golden with sunlight, this is where the bloom begins earliest — usually mid June, hitting its vivid, photo-perfect peak by early July, and starting harvest shortly after, mid-July. If you’ve ever seen that postcard-perfect scene of lavender rows stretching to the horizon, it was probably Valensole. Only 60km away form Mas des Sens a scenic Provence road-trip through the landscape of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur.
Then, the next Provence beauty to the east, high up in the mountains, there’s Sault — a slower, more peaceful bloom. Here, lavender holds off until mid-July, peaks just after the others begin to fade, and keeps its color well into early August, when the harvest begins. It’s the last to flower, and somehow, it always feels like a gentle farewell to the lavender season. Tip: Want the perfect Instagram photo without the crowds? Visit the fields at sunrise — the light is ethereal, and you’ll have it almost to yourself.
We recommend a slow travel Provence drive with a picnic on your search for the best hidden lavender spots - afterwards relax back at our villa with pool and a local, refreshing peach coloured Provence rosé wine.
